Innovation and commercialisation happen in different places. The filing map shows where patents are actually produced — every domestic filer, located from the address on the record — while the startup map shows where ventures incorporate. Reading the two together tells you where capability exists, and where it has (or hasn't yet) turned into companies.

Look for dense-but-quiet states: heavy filing with few mapped startups often means capability that hasn't been commercialised yet.
Founders & operators
The company-only city list is a proxy for experienced R&D talent — use it to decide where to hire or set up.
